What Mounting Style is Best?

One of the most important decisions you will make concerning your glass railing project, is determining which mounting style will be best for your application. Here at eGlass Railing™, we offer three mounting styles for our glass railing systems: deck mount, fascia mount, and fascia mount without brackets. Each has advantages and disadvantages, depending on your particular project.

Deck Mount

In this simple mounting style, the posts are mounted to the top of your interior or exterior surface. This mounting style is DIY-friendly and can even be installed by just one person. The biggest disadvantage to this style is that it takes up valuable surface space. If you have a small deck or a narrow stairway, this may be particularly important to consider. This mounting style can be a weaker attachment method unless there is at least 3” of wood or other solid material for the screws to attach to.

Fascia Mount

In this space-preserving style, the posts are mounted on the side of your interior or exterior surface. This mounting style is typically a two-person job, as you need one person to hold the post brackets while the other marks the holes to be drilled. This mounting style can be a stronger attachment method because the sides and ends of beams are generally stronger. With no posts on the surface, this style is easy to vacuum around, sweep off, or shovel snow from.

Fascia Mount without Brackets

In this minimalist style, the posts are mounted directly to the side of your interior or exterior surface. This mounting style is typically a two-person job, as you need one person to hold the posts while the other person attaches the posts to the surface. This mounting style requires double posts at the corners for better stability. This style may not meet building codes, so it is very important to check with your local building code office before choosing this mounting style.
